Fruit set is a term describing whether the flowers on a plant or tree produce fruit or not after pollination.
Process that affects fruit yield includes pruning, irrigation, fertilization and pollination, plant structure, number of flowers cluster/plant, number of flowers/clusters.
Environmental factors that affect fruit yield are amount of sunshine, length of growing season and amount of heat. Lack of sun, nutrient imbalances and plant immaturity can also limit fruit set.
Fruit setting, however, takes place in the latter part of flowering and is completed during the last 10 to 15 days. It takes about 8 weeks for the fruits to mature from the date of setting. Fruit drop is a serious problem during initial stages (2-3 weeks) of growth.

Maintaining high soil moisture throughout the fruit development period greatly helps in minimizing fruit dropping. The fruits have a short shelf-life. Harvesting at right maturity, packaging and temperature maintenance during storage and transport are critical factors that, if properly managed, can prolong the storage and shelf-life of the fruits to as long as six weeks.

Application of fertilizer will permit the plant to absorbs the mineral nutrients and be vigorous at the time of blooming.
